The other advantage of going to Hagerty is that the regular insuranc company will not give you much more than book value. You can argue about having receipts for mods but you still won't get the value that you think is fair for the car. I just took pics of the car today so hopefully it get insured before the long weekend.

True enough. It's all about risk. The idea is we really hope that we don't need to use the insurance.

I have been paying money to insurance companies for over 38-years without a claim.

I'll try the other classic car insurance companies next year when my car is 20-years old. Hagarty isn't getting one penny from me. Ever.

Post Re: Cheap car insurance
Thanks to this post I called Hagerty last Friday and as of today my 88 is covered. They e-mailed me the requirements (4 pics if modified). I faxed them the forms and e-mailed the pics, ( I couldve done everything online).Received a phone call to verify information and paid by credit card. It wouldve been faster if I used the online method instead of fax.

My monthly rate with RBC is almost as much as what I paid for the year through Hagerty. And the value of the car covered.

I was afraid they would be like Lant but theyre 100x better

Their website tells you. Just select your category and appraised value and it spits out a rate.

The price will vary by area or if its modified or a restoration. They would consider it modified if it has significant engine mods or heavy exterior/interior mods like $10,000 paint jobs etc.

I'm pretty happy with hagerty. I pay $332 a year for my '85. $12,000 agreed value on the car.

I paid about $350 per year until 2014 when haggerty jumped it 28% to $450. This is on 18k value..
Zehr Is less than $200!

Post Re: Cheap car insurance
RBC is charging me about $1,200 a year. But I store it in the winter so only have fire and theft.

I will end up paying about $800 to drive the car without one single restriction this year.

Hagarty quoted me $370 for "pleasure use". Then refused me. I really don't care about the extra $430. It removes all the restrictions. With the price of gas being this cheap. I'm looking forward to putting another 16k on my Camaro this summer.

Another "Camaro Summer"! (Or "Firebird Summer" for all my brothers from another F-body father)

Cheers,
Ken

We also got declined by Hagerty on our 2010 modified. Our insurance company demanded the car be removed from our policy once they found out it was modified over the winter, apparently they don't like 650 rwhp...lol

We did get insurance with a 19a endorsement, also known as "Agreed Value". This endorsement will guarantee to pay the amount stated on the endorsement in the event of a total loss. The policy was roughly $800 a year higher than Hagerty but allows us to take the car off the road for the winter, Hagerty, you pay for 12 months regardless. So by taking the car off the road, this policy is cheaper. There are no restrictions whatsoever, yearly mileage, driving to work, etc. and the car is covered for the agreed value of $73,450 (appraised at $65,000 plus 13% tax). FYI, driving a modified car and not disclosing the information to your insurance company can result in a void policy if anything were to happen, even if you are not at fault.

Bringing this back up. Just renewed with Lant since nobody else will accept a 1997 yet. Called and asked what they could do to lower the premium. Raised deductibles to $1000 and dropped $50 a year. Anything under that I would pay out of pocket to save a claim anyways so a win win!

An update from my end..turn s out Zehr won't insure a classic car with over 200,000kms on it, so I ended up going with Echelon through Crossroads (broker). I pay about $320/yr on $24K value..
