Post Trans experts in here please....:(
Having trouble with my 94 z28/auto.

Up until now, its been fine....but now its making noises from the front of the trans(i think)sounding similar to noisy lifters? It still goes into gear, but seems to only have o.d. reverse works fine. Could it be the front pump or torque converter? It still makes the noise in neutral..so im assuming its gotta be something on the input side of things?

Closest trans guy i know(well enough)is in Markham...would I be safe to drive it from Whitby all the way there...or does anyone know a reputable repair place in my area.

Also...how much does a trans for one of these cost..as im new to the fbody world?

Thanks
Dave. :(

Your going to need a rebuild anyway so how could driving hurt it any worse?

In front of the tranny could be the engine.

Noisy lifters tick or tap. I dunno how any part of the tranny would make that noise unless flexplate is hitting something(tranny/engine bolts are loose or the torque converter is ready to go.

FYI I have a B/D-body 4L60E tranny for cheap if you need it

Is the check engine light on? The only gears that you can get without the shift solenoids working are 3 and R. It usually also commands max line pressure which could be the extra noise you are hearing. Is the fluid full and clean? Or does it smell burnt and look dark brown?

No engine light, fluid does not seem to be dark, or smell bad for that matter, and no leaks on the drive way.....the sound is whats really puzzling me..never heard anything like that from a trans before? It is very 'ticky', or 'clacky' for lack of a better way of describing it, but is definitely from the trans.

Mr Transmission here in Oshawa is great. Hes a perfomance enthusiast himself was very upfront and not shady like some are to make the sale. Think it cost about 1800 for a full rebuild and re&re on a 4l60e.
