Machining costs SBC
Just wondering what the approximate cost would be to have a 350 sbc tanked, fluxed, bored/honed, align honed?
Thanks
Kevin

Thanks Kevin
Each shop and area are going to be a bit different but count on around 150.00 to 200.00 to clean and mag
Somewhere around 300.00 to bore and hone , Add anther 100.00 if you want it honed with a torque plate
Align honing is around 250.00
That should put you in the ballpark

Again these are ball parks there are always things that effect pricing ,like align honing a block price depends on whether your trying just make sure that the mains are straight and round or if it has spun a bearing [a block with a spun bearing takes more time and work]
At most shops it also makes a difference if you are suppling your own parts [before everyone gets testy do you bring your own food to a restaurant ,Machineshops like Garages base their hourly rate on that they will sell parts as well as labour ]
I don't charge a premium if a customer supplies his own parts but if they are wrong or I have to fix a quality issue there is no deal , strickly time required .
Zero deck on a V8 block should be around 350.00-400.00
And yes it can change other things depending on how much has to be removed from the block , it may change how the manifolf fits or the lenght of pushrods you need .
Once did a 455 Buick where the front piston was .010 below deck and the back one was .045 below it required extra work .

Thanks for the info guys
The motor is a older Gen I SBC 350, 1pc rear main seal, flat tappet cam...out of an 86-87 truck I assume. I would be doing as much of the work I can as possible as it would be a budget rebuild at best. I haven't opened the motor yet to see what I would be dealing with yet, so I don't know if there are any areas that might need to be fixed. I'd probably order a rebuild kit at a later date as funds allow.
