Post rear shocks/traction bars. 81 camaro
allrighty. motors running good, and cool, tranny is bullet proof, now its time for some rear suspension work. been coming across some articles online. seems like alot of people are sticking to 40/60 rear shocks. anyone have any for sale for an 81 camaro ? and if you've got traction bars let me know as well. Id rather the shocks be new, the traction bars I dont care.

you need to drop the 4*4 look and make your suspension move first, i have no traction bars and look how mine hooks.

ah ya....your shocks still work without air, if you jack under the middle of front frame, how much travel do your wheels have down. First thing u need if you want to hook at the track is tires, no normal street tire hooks worth a damn. Mine are 50 50

well my current shocks dont even reach the hole anymore because the rear is jacked up.. but I remember when it DID reach the hole, you could feel every single pump on the road, feels like ur rear is getting smashed up badely.. so i know the shocks arent doing anything. As for travel.. I dont know I never noticed it.

as for your traction bars, are they those universal fit ones ? maybe thats why they dont fit with sway bars.

theres your first problem, if your shocks are at max extension they can't work.

yup their universal ones, ive never in person saw a proper set on a camaro.

the shocks being at MAX extension is a new problem due to the large tires.. BUT in the past ( without shackles ) and with the shocks compressed a bit, they still didnt do anything. it just sounded like my rear end was getting smashed up. basically it felt like NO shocks before, and now that I lifted my rear it doesnt feel any different in terms of shocks. as for the universal ones... your referring to a set like this..? your saying this style doesnt fit with the shocks eye ?

they don't fit with rear sway bar. and should hit on eye, not spring. why such big tires? less pounds per square inch on the ground u know.

ohhh I gotcha! most of the bars out on the market are 28 " so they arent really long enough to reach that. unless I go with those fancy-er traction bars which are adjustable. you might not have needed traction bars, but I've had wheel hop in the past. When the car does hook a bit, it begins to bounce. -.- like a bunny...

Welllllll since John is running a whole lot more HP than you are and he doesn't need traction bars and you think that you do , maybe, just maybe it would be a good idea to listen to what he recomends , just a thought

oh I dont disagree. but every car is different.. he might be making alot more power, but fact is, mines hopping. even when I had my N/A motor it would hop. so I know the bars will help out with that. Im installing my new shocks over the weekend and Ill see if theres still a hop or if itll go away with the new shocks.

but when i lift my car by the frame my rear end can come down more and has a good bit of travel upwards, anything rigid is going to bounce. can you push your car down by hand?

if you can move it in both directions try some new shocks and you can likely get rid of it. if they are that bad the rear end with just bounce up and down, ive had wheel hop before, all these cars have the same suspension
