Post Air Bag Light
Had my air bag light come on and go out on my last drive with the car. Today i went to go take it out for a wash and it stayed on all the way there and when i started it to go home it still stayed on. Whats the issue im looking at here and is it safe to drive that it wont deploy?

Time for a Grant steering wheel

These cars get old and moisture gets in the connectors.

The bag probably wouldn't deploy in a crash let alone accidentily.

My friends new at the time 95 Z28 wacked the guard rail 3X on the Pennsylvania turnpike in the rain at around 100mph.

No airbag deployment,GM wanted the car from the Insurance company to find out why.

Clock spring could be going bad. Do you still have horn function and any other steering wheel controls?

Had the exact same thing happen on my Durango, turned out that when I had the steering shaft replaced, the techs that were doing it, decided to play with the unmounted steering wheel which caused the clock spring to snap. They get old with age and can fracture or the contacts could get dirty.

When the light is on the system is unarmed. All you can do is have it scanned and decide whether you want to fix it. Like said above if your horn or other steering wheel controls don't work it is more than likely the clockspring.

Horn when i bought the car would work intermittent. I tried to swap out the steering wheel for the 95 style wheel and it wouldnt work so i put the old one back on. Since then the horn hasnt worked at all which has been a year. Im going to bet the clock spring is bad ill look into it. Thanks

My 96 does similar things...I find that when it's damp out (raining or really humid) I get the air bag light on....When it's dry, or the car has been parked in the garage or the underground at my work, it's fine....In fact, since it's been spending lots of time at my work, I haven't seen an air bag light in a month or so now!

My horn works, but sometimes it sticks on and I gotta whack the top of the center of the wheel to make it stop....maybe related?

I've decided not to worry about it....I pick my battles with this car.

One of GMs diagnosis is called micro corrosion.
They will tell you it take all connections apart & clean corrosion off
then reconnect terminals. My partner at our shop was with GM
for 20 years. We've been getting similar problems with customer
vehicles & most cases it does cure the problem.
