Guys in the spring I was hoping to bring my car to a shop that could help reduce the gear whine from the Richmond 4:10 gears ( its louder than my exhaust ) ..can anyone recommend a shop ? I'm in the Georgetown area . Thanks .. |

Unfortunatly gear whine with Richmond 4.10s is generally always shitty no matter how you set them up. Some tweaks might make it not as bad but it will still be there. Mine are getting really bad... cant wait for my new rearend come spring to hopefully get rid of the whine! |

Richmond Gears suck imo. Run OEM or Motive. Surprisingly Quality Gear ( off brand ) can be quite good too. |

If you have put very many miles on them then trying to adjust them now is a waste of money. Your only option IMO is to start with a fresh set of gears and have them installed by someone/place you know has a good rep for setting them up properly. |

Meh used gears can work great too. Believe me if it can be done with a diff Ive tried it many times. You want to try something brave? Drain the gear lubes out of it, put it 10w30 and POUND the shit out of it for 20 kms or so then switch back to gear lube., FWIW I also find syn lubes make more noise than old school dyno lubes do. You got nothing to lose by trying. Ive had silent diffs turn a bit noisy after track abuse and noisy diffs turn silent after track abuse. Its just harmonics it wont hurt anything other than your sound system pleasures |

it could also be geometry of the gears..I guess you could always shave the tips to make it quiet..lol |

I run US Gear/Strange gears and they seem pretty quiet. Might want to consider another gear brand beside the Richmond. |

You guys are all cry babies j/k In my VAST 10-bolt experience, Richmond's are the loudest AND weakest. I've had my best luck with Yukon gears followed by OEM. I had a OEM GM set of 4.10's originally from a 4-banger s10 in my last 4th gen 10-bolt and it took MANY upon MANY clutch drops completely side-stepped, including on M/T ET Street bias-ply's and I cant even begin to count how many more burnouts/drifts/drag strip runs. The OE GM were the quietest, and when my last 10-bolt blew up the gear set wasnt the cause, it was that shit co-co clock/auburn posi design. The center section broke in half, the spider gears turned into mush and I even snapped that billet center pin in half. If i didnt have rear disk brakes my axles would've shot right out of the differential. The gear-set only had little chips on the edges of some of the teeth from exploding debris from the carrier, otherwise it was still in great shape, and that was 4.10's! |
