HELP NEEDED!!!!
Did a thermostat change on my 94 z28 on saturday....bled the system, car idled nice and smooth....put it under load(drive away)and it would knock/miss/stumble really really bad. We parked it for the night and came back to it sunday morning hoping maybe whatever was wet(?) would be dried out, but now it has no spark? I changed back to my stock coil and it made no difference. Any ideas? Could(and im really hoping)it be the ignition module? I really need help on this one and need to fix it as cheap as possible as my budget is totally fkd

Re: HELP NEEDED!!!!
You probably got the opti wet when you bled the system.
Jack her up and get the wifes blow dryer out.

Not trying to question or argue..just trying to understand. Because the coil spark/fires only after getting the signal that the Opti-spark distributor (the optical sensor) which is the common failure point in LT1's. Your opti has shit the bed. Even after drying it out, it mayyyy work, but it will have random missfires/stumbles/issues. You need to take the cap/rotor/opti itself right off and take it apart completely and go from there. Good luck!

Re: HELP NEEDED!!!!
Ignition modules generally fail from the heat soak, when mine went the car would run until the module heat soaked then it would die,let it cool and all was good until it heat soaked again.
The interval became shorter and shorter.
I think you got opti wet as the bleed screws are right above it.

Re: HELP NEEDED!!!!
You need to as mentioned by Tom is either get a hair dryer out and or let it sit for a few days and let it dry. This is a common issue with these cars. You may be alright after letting it and dry but sometimes that doesnt solve the issue. The waterpump has pissed twice on my dads opti and once it dried it out it was mint and never had an issue ever untill the next pump went and same thing its kept on going and hasnt skipped a beat.

Re: HELP NEEDED!!!!
Yes thats correct... two black ground wires, tan is pcm signal, and the other is 12v power. I sent you a pm but never got anything back. Are you getting any trouble codes? I have a spare opti, icm, and coil to be able to test on your car to see whats actually bad.

Re: HELP NEEDED!!!!
Well went to check out Dave's car this afternoon. Finally got into it with my laptop and got code 16 low res failure. Which is either the opti harness or the opti. Checked the voltages for each wire and came out fine so that leaves the opti. Lasted 22Xkm which aint bad. Tore it down and now he needs to order up a delco opti and new pumper the bearing when we pulled it were shot!

Glad to hear your using a Delco...killed 2 crappy aftermarket units in less than 6000km's and the new Delco is holding up rock solid...may want to make sure the vent tubes are clear while you have it all apart as well...I also had an oil leak from the opti seal into the timing cover and it saturated the inside of the opti, replace it while your at it too...

Getting to be a pro at doing opti's now I've learned not to alter the O.E ignition systems on these LT1 engines and just keep it all Delco...Crappy aftermarket opti's and MSD coils are just junk...it's nice to make it home with a reliable running car. Got my Delco opti from Summit for about $350, well worth it.
