Post low oil pressure?
ok this issue came up this week, gauge on the cluster reading very low oil pressure enough to send the "check gauges" light to come on. i also have a "T" sender for the aftermarket autometer gauge and its reading low as well but does move at driving speed, not dramatically but under 25psi. at idle its just above "0" i put a mechanical gauge to it reading 1000 rpm 10-15 psi then at 3000 25 psi? where did the gauges go wrong or is it real low for that rpm? When i rebuilt the motor i did not replace the oil pump considering the pump was still good, just replaced the spring and the shaft to a metal design.

should i be real concerned about what the gauges are reading? do you think i hurt the motor going racing a few weekends ago? the motor still sounds strong nothing out of the ordinary. what should i be looking for.....im hoping not cam bearings i replaced those when i rebuilt the motor.

someone else might want to chime in on this, but I thought the rule of thumb for good oil pressure was 10psi per 1000 rpms. If that is correct, and the mechanical gauge is reading that I would assume your motor should be ok. I assume this is done with the motor at operating temps and not cold correct?

at operating temps is when this all happens

You didn't change much at all with the weight, a 30wt is a 30wt, the 5 and 10 w indicate winter which is "cold" temp viscosity and nothing to do with operating temp viscosity.

You need to try something like a 40wt ie 0w40 or a Castrol 0w30 (its operating temp viscosity is just 13.9x just shy of the 40wt rating).

Or even try a 20w50wt though not recommended.

Test your current 10w30 with a thickener such as Bardahls's stop leak. It will raise the operating viscosity a bit.

well i figured it out, bottom end bearings are done, scored to shit so is the crank. whats even more or a piss off is the shop (MISSISSAUGA ENGINES) Wont stand behind there work of shottiness, i called them twice now and got the run around about how its "our" problem. oh well you live and learn im just in a bind me and my wife just purchased a house in etobicoke and i dont have the funds to play with right now or for a while. i will rebuild it making it stronger then before, but as of right now she is done for a good while. sad day in the motoring world.

Thats how we all feel after spending a pile of cash and ending up with a piece of scrap. Take the time to clear your head before you decide. I just figured if the crank was junk it would be the time to stroke it!

Well thats really shitty to hear let alone the shop not even trying to help you out. IMO i would do an LS swap since your already auto its alot easier and cheaper. If memory serves me correct the engines sit alot lower in your cars so you might be able to get away with truck motor intake and acc for time being and down the road swap to fbody acc and a ls6 intake to clean it up. Can find truck 6.0L complete motors for under a grand and 345hp stock! LT1 motors are moneypits to build properly and harder to make power with. If i were to do it all over again i would have went LS swap but didnt have the money up front to do it all at once.

as of right now car is in storage and will be there for quite sometime, house is more important right now then f***ing with the engine. i have spoken to a few builders about what to do next but i just don't have the funds available to continue with it for now. Next year i will decide what to do next, but as of right now pissed off the way i am i just don't want to deal with it.
