Post T-5 and 3.23 gears?
Anyone used this combo and have an idea on highway cruising speeds? What did stock 3rd gens come with non l69? 3.27 or 3.45?

Currently have stock open 3.23 rear with the powerglide its spinning high at cruising speeds. Would a 2.73 rear swap cure this problem or is still going to be in the same situation again?

The powerglide is brutal for cruising at 50-60mph and thinking if i can cheaply swap a 350/t5 i might consider it or for a cheaper solution a 2.73 gear swap.

wouldnt it be easier to swap in a turbo 350 or even a chev overdrive tranny. Also what rear end is in the car now, is it a chev rearend or do you have a pontiac version in the back end of it.

You need to use a gear calculator which can be found online. Tire height, rear gear ratio, and trans ratio need to all be input to know engine rpm. Unless you get a WC T5 the torque rating is hardly enough for a stock 350.

Its an inline 6 the th350 is not an option its either the glide or a 3 speed manual unfortunalty.

I guess its hit or miss with T-5s but Noel is rocking a S10 T5 behind his LT1 in his 67 Camaro and has had zero issues with it and beats on it which got me thinking since he bought my T56 that i could get that T5 for practically free as he has no use for it. The 350 i can get my hands on makes less power then Noels Camaro so i should be safe to put it behind it and with the 3.23s it should be a good combo that i can highway drive it without spinning to the moon.

The 2.73s might a bit better over the current gear but i know its going LS down the road and there is no sence is swapping it out again.

If youre set into going LS later then I think you should go straight to a t56..IMHO a 700r4 is your best option.

For a brief period of time I had a T5 in my 3rd gen with 3.42 AND 3.73 gears. I know not 3.23's but all that means is you'll be spinning less RPM's.

With a 245/50/16 tire, 3.73 gears and a WC-T5, going 120km/h i was at ~2000ish rpms. When I had 3.42's I was around 1800ish IIRC, definitely under 2k though.

Id imagine with 3.23's and a T5, you'll be around ~1500-1700ish rpms at 120.

If you can get a 350 cheap enough and a T5 for next to nothing, you'll have a lot more fun with your can then you are now with a 2-speed glide and the 6 cylinder.
