Post 72 Camaro Stalling
I have a 1972 Camaro (350, 3 speed automatic) it has had the engine replaced at some point.

The last three times I've started it it stalled if I didn't imidiatly put it in drive and start moving. After driving a few feet forward it is no longer an issue. If I put it in reverse and imidiatly start driving backward it will stall as soon as I let off the gas.

Has anyone had a similar problem or know why this is happening?

Im assuming that its a carb engine.

Could be a few things. Sounds like the idle may be off. Whats the RPM read just before it cuts out?
Carb could be dirty and need cleaning or rebuild.
Also the timing may be off.

Generally speaking check cheap and easy things first. Inspect Pugs, wires, vaccum lines, fuel lines before moving on to more invovled jobs.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Check all vac lines for cracks/splits or peharps unhooked etc

Revving the engine twice after starting prevents it from stalling. From this I figured that it was stalling cause not enough gas was making it to the engine. Does that seem right?

Curious...have you ever had a carb'd car before?

If the choke isnt 100% operational, when its 'cold' like first start up of the day or after it sits for quite a few hours, the engine needs to warm up a bit to get the carb and gas a little bit warm.

I've never ever had a carb'd engine that I could fire up from stone cold and just start driving right away without even the slightest issue. They will pop, bang, sputter and stall until they've reached a certain temperature...especially if you've removed the choke ;)

carb with an electric choke is fine after 30 sec of warm up. If the choke and fast idle are set fine then theres no need to warm it up that long.

It's not the first carb car I've driven but it's the first ive owned. The issue was I couldn't let it warm up. It would stall if I didn't start driving right away.

The problem is fixed now. I loosened some things and tightened them back up now it starts and idles fine.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
