Post go ahead......lock my thread!!!!!!!! I was kidding
hey im a poet!!!!

i just wanted to make a thread that can be locked too....

over this rocker deal but somewhat of a different note....

around here there are quite a few performance places...so you have to take what comes to pay the bills. i like doing the performance stuff but do anything and everything in between. The threads that go on the rocker arms and stuff seam like price is no object.... if farmer Bob walks into the shop and has a rod knocking, im not going to be able to get the job if im quoting him on a$10000 motor for his 1993 pickup. where as down the street mr jow blow gives him a price of 2400 for a reman long block....with a 3 year warranty. so who is going to get the job and who is going to get talked about for being really overpriced. i can't sell farmer bob fancy roller rockers even though they are better.

also i have seen some rollers that let go and the bearings come out of the fulcrum.....anyone want to guess where they go when they fall out???

Louch is right generally aluminun rockers especially ones of questionable origin are a bad idea in a street car aluminum work hardens ,and eventually fails . But what I was getting at in the other thread was correcting the comment that roller rockers provide more lift . When you're an apprentice you end up with a lot of jobs that nobody in thier right mind would want . So after spending a few hours going through a couple of thousand stock rocker arms looking for the highest rocker arm ratio and then installing them on an engine to varify that they are still tech inspection legal you learn a thing or two about rockers that you won't find in books . There are many racing classes that require stamped steel rockers and before custom ratios became available that is what we had to do . A 1.5 roller rocker will be 1.5 a stamped steel rocker may not

another good point.....when we ran super street we could only run stock style stamped rockers with 1.5 ratio....but we did run long slots and could run more cam then the challengers but had to run the cars on dot tires. we ran over 500 lift on it and spun the motor 7600 rpm. for 1 season and did a gear change with nothing more then an oil change on the motor and still turned 7200 the second season. never had a valvetrain problem of any kind.

Let's hope this thread doesn't get locked.

A 1.5 ratio stamped steel rocker will output less valve lift over the duration
of lobe lift than a 1.5 ratio roller rocker.

This is especially true as RPM increase. The stamped rocker cannont maintain
it's shape and will flex. The added friction will also cause pushrod flex
and harmonics...again amplified as RPM increases.

There is absolutely no benefit of having a stamped rocker in place of
a roller rocker except for a bit of cost.

Circle Track magazine has apparently made back to back dyno pull of
concerning our very discussion. I'm willing to buy this magazine and
post photos of the contents.

Whether the needles fall out and end up in the pan, or not is a different story.
Whether you can find mismatched poor quality ratios in a batch of mass
produced stamped rockers is a different story.

If you want to compare 1.5 to 1.5, or 1.6 to 1.6 let's continue the discussion.

Otherwise, we prove nothing without controlled tests.

P.S. It's a good practice to epoxy screens over the oil returns on your heads 8)

so would you not buld a circle track motor that has to run them....some classes have rules and roller rockers are easy to spot.

Let's talk about non-sanctioned motors. Obvisouly, if you're limited to
design, there's no point in breaking the rules.

but sometimes you gotta do what u gotta do...rollers are better and no one is disputing that fact i don't think. im telling you man we spun the crap out of our super street with stock crank, rods, hyper flat tops, not allowed anything other than factory ignition and one night got hit hard and broke the axle and Doug thought he was still good and thing went to the pin on the recall.....9000 rpm and we didn't ever have a problem. spending 4 to 500 bucks on rockers for a street motor would be the last investment i would have to throw on. and every roller rocker set i have heard tick... sound like their out of adjustment.

I would agree, I am currently building a budget motor and got a set of steel roller tip rockers on a trade for some parts and will be using them. I will be putting the motor together myself for $1000-$1200. To add $400 or more to the cost is a large percentage. I do beliee that roller rockers are more precise and less friction etc..... but with the mileage I will be putting on my daily driver street engine, steel rockers will do my just fine.

I would hope not, but if there is anyone that thinks a stamped rocker
can hang with a roller, please show your face!

I have never spent more than $350.00 on a set of rockers. You might
be thinking of the high end Jesel, or Comp Pro Mags?

The ticking is natural due to the tolerances. If you can handle the ticking,
rollers are a nice feature (again, in my opinion).

Price for power benefits are tough to beat...especially in the upper RPM
where it counts. But as you said earlier, if you're budget limited, $300.00
is a big expense.

Anyway, these are my preferences. I'm not pushing my opinions on anyone!
