Post SPEC Clutches whos got em' and who likes them
well its time to replace the clutch in the T/A starting to disengage at the top of the pedal....i was looking on jegs at the RAM HD clutch but found nothing about them online if they were any good or not. Doing a lil more looking i found the Spec stage 2 clutch for my car and that for 50 dollers more then the RAM HD it holds just as much TQ and better name brand.

what i would like to know is or the question that i have is who has a spec clutch and how is it?

Thank you in advance

Allen.

The RAM Powergrip is what I used and it held up great to 411 rwhp 374 rwtq and launching at 5K+ on drag radials. On the street it drove like stock no chatter at all. I had the HDX prior and it only lasted one launch. Never had any experience with the Spec clutches. All the pressure plates on the LT1 cars are the same regardless of what clutch kit you buy. The friction material on the disc is the big difference.

We had a Spec stage xxx in the 96 and OMG, dunno what stage it was but it looked like a star and it SUCKED donky balls, friggen thing was an on/off switch, no friendly street driving was possible with that thing without tons of chatter.

Have a dual friction in my other car with a T-56, smooth as pie, its got about same power levels as Flames and it too took 5k dumps with ease, heck it has out lived the T-56 sofar, so when the Spec went in the 96 we replaced it with the Dual friction also even though its got half the power of my other car, smooth running now

I got no exp with the RAM clutches yet

Its really personal preference. I have the SPEC 3 in my car and it definitely does chatter a bit and just like Hawk said, its an ON/OFF switch, but its held up to everything so far very well.

My opinion? Go with whichever fits your budget the best, but in terms of holding up, The RAM HD and SPEC 3 hold up to the most track abuse from what ive seen heard and read. BUT if you want a much more comfortable stock liek driving clutch, the DFX is the way to go. Hawk loves em and so do lots of others, but they start to slip after many drag strip launches/run.

i want to try something new. The spec stage 3 puck clutch was awesome, never slipped once, and grabbed hard every time. Only thing i noticed was a bit of clutch chatter if you don't give enough gas when taking off from a stop. I would like to try a mcleod dual friction or something. Mine is still working so when the time comes ill think more about it.

Why not? Its no secret that McLeod clutches are pretty much the best out there. And maybe he plans on making 700+ rwhp, which really no single disc clutch will live at, not even the SPEC 5 un-sprung clutch which i hear is actually a huge POS.

thats right, 700 would be maxing them single clutchs out.

I had a RAM which lasted me one Season and only 3 trips down the the track at that. Dropped in a SPEC 3 and no more problems. It does get some getting used too though. Like Hawk said "it's like an on\off switch" But once you get the hang of it and it wears in it's ok even on the street as a daily driver. I've had mine going into it's 3rd year now. When it goes I'm getting another one.
