Post Help - very weird kenwood harness.
I'm helping my friend install a Kenwood kvt-815 DVD head unit. normally a HU is easy to install, just get an adapter or splice a bunch of wires. but this kenwood unit has some sort of "bus" or w/e you would call it that I've never seen before. none of my friends have seen it either and apparently there are several shops that have no idea what to do with it. anyways, i've got some pics. if anyone has a deck with this or knows anything about it let me know. I couldn't find any adapters or anything online.

What's the connector towards the middle of the unit? I assume this is for the standard wiring to wire it into the car. Perhaps the Kenwood wire harness is missing and plugs in there?

It's not a matter of the wrong adapter - the yellow plug is for connecting to the cars factory plug and will have open pig tails on the other end that to splice into the radio wiring. That other plug may be for some other optional feature(s).

This appears to be the cable that plugs into what you're holding:

...looks like it's for a second component of the system (the "brain"). I am not familiar at all with in dash DVD systems, but your player will probably be useless without this second component.

This is likely the harness you are missing and need (plugs into the middle of the unit):

kvt-815 has a hideaway box that has all the pre outs and power connections, needs or will not work.

+1

The 'brain' box which is basically like an "ECU" for the HU is what that connector has to connect too.

Sounds to me like your buddy got hosed on a used DVD deck sale where he only got the display or DVD drive, not the 'brain' controller with wires.
