Post 4th Gen Antennas
Hey, I am doing the stereo in the Firebird and I want to swap out the stock (broken) power antenna for a stock non-power antenna. If I get a non-power unit from the wrecker, should it just be a direct swap? Or is their any signal amplifiers or annoyances like that I am going to have to deal with?

Its a direct swap.

Why not get one of those CT universal power antenna kits,I have them on both my Birds.

They sell for about $69.00.

I find the power thing more annoying than anything else. I prefer the good old black rod that just threads onto the post. Out of curiosity though, did you have to buy an extension cable with the universal one? I was looking at one of those the other day and the cable didn't look long enough for the bird?

No the new assembly works with the factory rubber grommet and one steel one from the box and unless your an F Body guru it looks factory.

It goes plenty tall enough, just cut the connector off your broken one so you have enough wire to wire it to the new one for a plug and play fit.

BTW I hated the black steel mast on my 94TA back in the day and went power with one of these.

So when my 01 Bird's went crappo it was a no brainer same with the 99 TA it was broke when I bought it.

Are you talking about the actual antenna cable? If you're talking about the antenna cable, thus saving the need to run a complete new wire, how did you connect the cut end to the wire on the new antenna? I didn't think you could solider or crimp antenna cable?
Sorry if that's a dumb question...I've just never dealt with an antenna.
