sons new project
1985 iroc with 79 350, t5 tranny a little dirty since sitting for last 10 years, interior needed several cleans to get rid of musty smell body is rust free , just small hole in drivers side floor. Had no power to key ended up being ignition switch, then found distributor out 1 tooth, fixed now runs like new, have to fix vacuum as it won't close on its own thinking need new spring. We are working on replacing some front end parts and redoing the brakes, and need new tires due to extreme weather cracking.( shame tires are brand new) hoping to have on the road within a month. Will add new pics as we get closer.

Re: sons new project
Looks like it will respond to lots of stubbing.
What is the history of the car? Why was it sitting for so long?

Re: sons new project
looks like a L69 car. Have you checked the RPO codes?

Re: sons new project
according to rpo ity is a l69 is that a good or bad thing. We took 2.5 hour drive down to scarborough tonight to get some tires found a guy selling 4 for $80. let me have them for $60. they have about 60% tread left on them. Will work on getting them mounted this week.

Re: sons new project
Pretty rare car then. I found on thirdgen.org that in 85 they only made 2,497 L69s in '85. Not all of those would have been IROC's either, a number of them would have been Z28's.

Re: sons new project
Slowly but surely getting things going. Distributor was out 1 tooth, set it right , set timing at 8*, we removed the quadrajet carb and rebuilt it, just having issues with tuning it now, is running a little rich, and has rough idle. We also decided to create the access hole in hatch for tank as fuel guage not working, when we removed it today found sending unit seems to be from injected car with pump still attached, someone just removed the little hose that attached the pump to feed line. found post on 3rd gen showing how to modify existing sending unit to work with carb.
Now I know original engine was replaced but does anyone know how to tell if car originally carbed or injected.
We also had to replace the tranny mounts as they were torn in half, we went the right way and replaced tranny mount and cross member mounts with energy's poly mounts. Brakes are all good but were going to replace front rotors as they are all pitted from sitting to long ( priced out 20 each to machine them and 42 each for new ones). New rotors should be in Monday or Tuesday.
Next question is does anyone know where temp sending unit should be on 79 350 as guage doesn't work and can't find a sending unit on engine anywhere, just the temp sensor on thermostat housing. Will update when more is done.

Re: sons new project
the temp sender for the iroc should be in the head, i know on my 84 z28 it was on the drivers side head between the first and second spark plug.

Thats where its supposed to be on a 3rd gen, yep. OP, you dont need to use the "79 350 temp sender location". Just put it in the drivers side cylinder head between Cylinder 1 & 3's spark plugs...thats the temp sender/sensor.

Re: sons new project
According to 8th digit G, engine was 305 carbed, just wondering why there would be a sending unit with electric fuel pump installed on it. Did some come with both mechanical and electric pumps , will just remove pump and fit new line with strainer on bottom as I've seen posted elsewhere.

Re: sons new project
A few got an extra in tank electric pump to help cure vapor lock issues.
