Looks like a few more days at the shop,it howled like a banshee on the test drive and we pulled the cover. This thing needs a new ring and pinion

My Moser came that way too....and I specificly asked if the gears were noisy! They make a bit of noise.....well the radio couldn't drown it out!

They probably use a cheap gear set or the lash isn't set correctly at the factory. I got some good qualified guys(Joe and his son Ryan) that are going to get it right.

Re: Let The Modding Begin...
Well the axles are good and the housing is good.
The center section is pooched along with the ring and pinion.
I should have my car back next week in time to make a few November runs.

Re: Let The Modding Begin...
Well after a long hiatus the TA mad its way back to the track, the gears are broken in nice and she don't howl at all just a little whine on decel.
No tune for 3.73's yet and the car is heavier I burned 50/50 old fuel /new fuel Friday night with a 3/4 tank and got a best of 12.54 at 109 in 1200da.
Yesterday with new fuel and 1800+ DA she ran a best of 12.515 at 109.82 on a 1.789 60ft
Corrected for altitude it converts to a 12.25 at 112.22mph which would be a new PB.
So I need to pull some weight and get this pig retuned and I think that elusive 11 with bolt ons is going to happen this fall.

Re: Let The Modding Begin...
Well she went quicker and faster on each pass 4 good runs made in total before what little prep they had was gone and so was I by 8:45pm.
DA was a fantastic 104 ft but bthere was a slight side head wind.
So right off the street at 7pm with a 10 minute cool down after tech
60ft 1.757 1/8th 7.9 at 87.52 1/4 12.383 at 110.17 not bad.
Hot Lapped at 7.09pm
60ft 1.742 1/8th 7.867 at 87.84mph 1/4 12.34 at 110.29 getting better
Hot Lap #2 at 7.14pm
60ft 1.735 1/8th 7.868 at 87.62 1/4 12.353 at 109.95 she never has like the 3rd run in a row.
20 minute cool down 7.34pm
60ft 1.729 1/8th 7.846 at 87.65 1/4 12.332 at 109.86 best of the night.
Next pass I blew the tires off in the right lane and the pass after that in the left lane.
That was enough, I need it to leave harder and it wasn't happening or going to happen so I packed up and came home.
I think the 17's have to go and I need a 15"slick and skinny combo.

Re: Let The Modding Begin...
Well my quest for 11's with a bolt on car may have ended last night. I get to the timing shack after after my slowest pass of the night and the young guy says there were reports of "blue smoke" coming from my car. It felt a little soft and I think there was a little bit of a misfire as I zoomed down the track with a 1.79 60ft to a slow 12.62 at 107.77 I had previously run all(7 passes) 12.50's at 108.Xx with a best of 12.52 at 108.91 on a 1.82 60ft and a worst of 12.56. I think its just blown valve seals as she ran fine on the way home and has great oil pressure. So with vacation time this week I will check the plugs and lift the valve covers and take a look. So much to think about going forward although I may just go the junkyard truck engine route as it did start as a budget build and I think I will stay true to the theme. Did I achieve my goals..NO... but I got a 120,000 mile car to go 12.26 at 110.5 with just bolt ons and almost full weight with A/C and Leather on 17's. Did I have fun running this car over 600 times down the track...oh hell yeah. Thanks to everyone that helped with advice, moral support and selling me their gently used parts. So thats how my project thread will end on this board. I guess this is good bye for now...see you at the track
