Post my LT1 build for the SS *updated pics*
ok so i have been a little bored at work this week i decided to tell all of you guys of my plans for the spring here is what i got so far into 2 yrs of planning/buying parts, and yes i have done a lot of research before i made any choices. Read over boatload of info from here, ls1lt1, ls1tech and a few other sites this is what i have come up with.

what i have purchased so far :
*CC503 cam (christmas gift from the wife) i went bigger then the crane 227 which i sold because i wanted a little more top end hp, and more grunt at idle.
*95' camaro ported aluminum heads with new valvesprings/dampners (up to .600 lift) with new valves seals hardened retainers/locks, guideplates (the heads where ported here locally by a good friend who works at a machine shop they build race engines for shops within our area. i got the flow #'s from them at .600 its was int #262/ exh #191 and a 3 angle valve job)
*ls7 lifters from GM
*GM lt1 castiron head gaskets for more compression
*comp cam push rod length checker (so i can order the correct length PR)
*brand new opti from GM (at 0 cost to me since i have some people in the GM business )

now the list on what i have to purchase:
*all the gaskets getting them all from Felpro (intake, rocker cover, front cover, frt and rr crank seals)
*GM water pump
*comp ultra pro magnums 3/8's, 1.6 full roller nsa
*trick flow PR (depending on the size i will need)
*edge converter 3200 stall,
*new p/s pump since mine was still screwy from last yr
*30lbs svo injectors
*bbk 52mm throttle body
*pcm programming from alex
*new gm timing chain
*new GM tensioner

anyway thats i can remember right now. i just want what u guys think if i am missing anything or overlooked anything? wondering if i should even bother upgrading the 3.5 maf from a camaro?

thx guys i hope to get this thing started in late march early april

Sounds like you got a great list together and should make some good power. You will need to use pushrod guideplates with the nsa rockers and an electric waterpump wouldnt be another bad idea to squeeze another 10rwhp out of the build. The cc503 and ported heads should net you somewhere in the area of 350rwhp with the a4 soaking up alot of it. That 3200 converter should would good aswell, what do have for gears in the rear?

The list looks good but I'd go 7/16" on the rockers instead of 3/8". Also on the MAF the stocker will be fine save your money. You already have headers?

The small "B" car MAF's flow that well?

I thought they were a restriction?

Thats always one of the first upgrades they do.

Does the "B" body have the same pump and resevoir as the "F" cars?

If so I have a good one laying around complete with hoses and rez, you can have it for $30.00 shipped.

BTW nice plan that should get the Whale moving;)

When I first read it I thought he said he already had the 3.5 Camaro MAF. Definately get one if you don't already. I have an extra one PM if you want it.

Post Re: my LT1 build for the SS *opinions welcome*
to answer a few questions:

I have guideplates already installed, but im thinking of upgrading to better then the GM style. electric water pump im just sticking with the GM style, i get it for cost ;) as soon as i get the heads on the car i will measure the pushrod length for hardened PR so i get the right geometry. i have 3:73 out back already got rid of those pesky 3:08' long time ago now car ran 14.9 with a full interior and 300lbs stereo out back not bad for 4600+ lbs ;)

as for the 7/16' studs i thinking im changing them out a lot of people are mentioning if im already in there i might as well upgrade them for more stability and also since i haven't ordered the RR's i might aswell upgrade to better before i order anything up top. headers i have tri-y's ment for a b-body already installed all stainless and 2 1/2 back to hi-flo cats and magnaflo mufflers. pic :
Image

the MAF stock impala ones are 3" screened and the f-bodies are 3.5" i dont know if its worth it but if you have one kicking around maybe i will consider it :)

What do you guys think of the 52mm throttle body or is it worth upgrading to a 58mm i guess i will have to port the intake for either or?
thx guys

You can run the 52 without openning the intake up. I found with the 58mm the throttle was very touchy at light throttle/cruising. IIRC it was only 5% open on the highway.

I have basically done the exact same build with my LT1. It started as an iron head from a Roadmasher.
I'd surely go 7/16" studs for the rockers, why not get more stability for the same cost if you don't already have the rockers.
Setup:
3.5" MAF, and leave the screens in it (I'd recommend the same)
Meziere electric pump, partly for power, and to reduce the chance of leakage on the opti.
0.029" Impala gaskets #12553160
GM 14011051 guideplates (I've heard of alignment and hardening issues with others, so chose these)
Comp #7940-16 7.200" "Hi-Tech" Push rods
7/16" 1.6 Pro Mags
I run a 58mm Accel TB, just because I got it cheap. You should be fine with the 52. The 58 is noticeably touchy at low opening.
Racetronix Delphi (Lucas) Disc Injector 42lb/hr #621031
Lloyd Elliott 2.2 heads and cam (casting are better 643's)

What are you doing with your old iron heads?

Post Re: my LT1 build for the SS *opinions welcome*
yesterday i ordered my racetronix pump, i bought 7/16 ultra pro mags RR and 7/16 studs (took the advice i was given for a better valvetrain stability). i have the impala head gaskets (more compression) guideplates im sticking to the ones i have on the heads i believe they are the GM ones already. i also ordered the converter from Edge 3200 and last week received a special gift/part brand new free opti spark :)

i think i may sell the old iron heads but dont know yet

I hope its a GM Delco opti not a cheap aftermarket you will kick yourself later trust me if it isnt! They can be had on ebay for a pretty decent price by one or two sellers on there instead of forking out like 600+ at the dealer a pop. If you use a cheap aftermarket opti your asking for problems ive killed two the 3-4 years ive owned my and know some people that have last a couple months and died.

Hmm, any more of those free opti's flying around?
I forgot, I also run the Walbro pump and harness from Racetronics. It's great kit.

What kind of power are you looking to put down with the combo?

Im hoping to be in the 350hp area at the wheels, and id would be very happy with a low 13 to high 12 pass. the car does weigh 4300 plus about 300lbs in stereo crap thats not removable. racetronix kit looks great did you install the harness with it? i hope its not too complicated i wondered if the pump can be used without installing the harness kit?

as for the opti it was a "owning me a favor" deal so unfortunately i dont have any more.

I did install the Racetronix harness with the pump. It prevents voltage loses from the stock harness. Worth the money and effort if you ask me. I don't see why you couldn't use it with the stock wiring though.

Been running the racetronix pump for a few years on the stock harness with no problems.
