Yeah ive never seen an lt1 tb like that before. Who makes it? If it doesnt work or fit you can always sell it and pick up a Professional Products 52mm and are pretty cheap compared to a bbk or edelbrock. Can usually find a good used one on camaroz28.com forum, thats where ive bought all my used engine parts and a saved a tone!

*update

i stripped the rest of the block down to bear nothing other then the pistions/crank in the block, took the camshaft out realised the cam bearings are f**ked all of them, just wear and tear also the cam journals were also messed up and warn. i made a call to my local machine sho to get a price and he asked if i had ever had oiling problems with the motor, i never realised that the bearings in the cam area had oiling issues for pressure in the top end, i just thought it was normal for oil pressure to be low. anyway its another setback aleast another week of waiting for the block to come back from the machine shop, and another expense but i was expecting it to not be perfect. 383 time? lol i wish i had the cash to invest into one but right now i dont. i did get to powerwash the engine bay and wow what a difference!

more pics next weekend hopefully :)

52mm TB came in ;)

Are you putting new rod bearings and main bearings in it now that the cambearings are toast ?

You'd be nuts not the cam rotates at half the speed of the crank and has a whole lot less load on it than the crank so it the cam bearings are bad the rod and main brgs will be worse . The other bad thing is that it has powdered metal rods in it and I've yet to take an enging apart with those pieces of junk in it where there wasn't atleast one or two bearings loose in the rods .
Definately put a new oil pump in it they are pretty cheap compared to doing it all over again .

Never seen a BBK look like that b4 man not sure what to say about it. As EFH said you would be wise to change all bearing and while your in there a pump isnt a bad idea. I would also put a set of ARP rod bolts on for some reassurance they are cheap. Now you can already see why building an engine is bad. All the little things you can and should do while you have it apart and it adds up quick...

ok got another call back,

for new oil pump with a metal shaft instead of a cheap plastic one, new ring set, bore and hone, new bearings-all of them and a new rear main seal, machining the crank, plus a good block cleaning (keeping the old pistons and connecting rods) $1050. does this sound reasonable? i think it does

you list bore and hone, but you are keeping the old pistons? that part doesnt make sense to me. if you are to bore the block(cylinders) you would need to get new pistons wouldnt you.

For that price you can pick up forged 350,355,383 lt1 blocks, Sometimes with heads. Wont have your old pistons and rods either.

IMO thats way better way to spend 1050.

No Mikes right if you "BORE AND HONE" a block you need new oversized pistons . You can beglaze clyinders and put new rings on old pistons [since you are not removing material ] but if you bore then the old pistons won't be large enough

I called them back to clairfy what was being done and why they are still able to use the old pistons. from what the machinist said, the cylinder walls were still good but some where not completely straight so he has to hone the cylinders, not actually bore to a "bigger". the rings he is replacing is because of the wear on the old originals that over time have become weak. the pistons and connecting rods where still good enough to use since i am on a little bit of a budget, i did search on engines before i made my decidsion on getting a short block for a cheaper price but i came up empty without going way over what i wanted to spend. i don't know where you guys can find fully forged LT1 for that price, thats like find a pot of gold ;) all i have come up with is 2500- 5500 fully built bottom ends.
