Post 1989 IROC-Z Hardtop 350TPI
Greetings everyone.

My project is a 1989 IROC-Z with a 350TPI motor. The car has SLP runners, headers, and exhaust. As you can see from the images, the car needs some body work and fresh paint. I am currently in talks with a shop to have the engine rebuilt $2800. I will most likey have the block repainted, and perhaps the headers coated as well. The car had bad injectors, which I replaced along with some other items, TPS/IAC/CAP,ROTOR/PLUGS,WIRES/FUEL FILTER and REGULATOR. The engine could use a rebuild, it is burning oil... I suspect bad rings, and blowing white smoke here and there which could indicate the head gaskets are gone; The car sat for 7+ years.

The interior is in great shape, all original... except for a few cracks in the dashboard. The pull down hatch motor is toast, so I will be looking for a complete replacement. I want to keep the car semi-original, so I will be re-finishing the rims and putting on some new BFG tires.

On the road again... well, sort of...

Welcome,
Looks like a great start! Strange exhaust, don't think I've ever seen anything like that on a third gen.

I believe the SLP exhaust can be seen on the 3rd generation Firehawks.

Exhaust is a TTTL as I call it and have heard it called ( Two To The Left ) Andy has one on his car. Nice looking car and how long have you owned it? Gonna be puting any aftermarket parts in the motor on the rebuild?

My flowmaster (two chamber muffler) has a 3" in with two 2.5" on the left.

My father owned the car from 1995-2011. Previously, it was owned by a co-worker who was the original owner.

Aftermarket parts, I am not sure at the moment. It really will depend on any "additional costs" that arise once the engine has been disassembled. I am in talks with Andy from Straightline in Uxbridge, I believe they are a club sponser?

Straightline2 is a sponsor and Andy does great work! I got mine done at Rev N High in Pickering by Spence and he did a great job with it and was very helpful.

The camaro will be in transit to Straightline this Sunday. Andy was nice enough to go out of his way to drive to Milton to gather the car and bring it back to the shop.

On another note, I bought new tires from Tire Rack today... Firestone Firehawks. I am now debating whether I should buy new AR IROC wheels or re-finish the stock two lines. Hmm...

The club sponser does an amazing job refinishing the stock rims

Quick update...

I took a drive over to Straightline yesterday to go over the car with Andy. The estimate was more than I had expected, but he has a shop to run and time is money. I have a good feeling it will all be worth it in the end.

1. Front rotors and pads.
2. Rear rotors and pads.
3. Fuel pump.
4. Water pump.
5. Re-Re L98.

Firehawks arrived at my door today.

Yeh i agree the brakes and waterpump can be done with a little wrenching which will save you cash and alow for more to other stuff. Whenever you get a quote you better double your budget. Its the golden rule to live by when rebuilding cars!

Fuel pump is a bit of a pain but if you do the trap door mod it can be alot easier specially down the road.
