3:70's are cheaper and funner around town, but 3:45's prolly the better match and better on gas

Personaly, thinknig about it right now, ya i think i would go with the 3:70's for more fun around town, lmao

already shifting at 5500rpm? perfect :)

No plan to go LSX in this car, that's the plan for the 81 Z28.
I was thinkin the 3.7 would just rev too high on the hwy and get me out of power too soon.
Seems like 3.45 is the best way to go.

if you plan on eventually going to an lsx go with the 3.7, if you are staying with the tpi i would go with the 3.45. in the end i dont beleive there will be that much difference in what your final rpms will be.

I have been playing with the idea of converting to a manual trans thinking T56. I think I have all what is needed to convert a thirdgen to a t5 but what would be T56 specific?
my understanding is you need to use a T56 from a LT1, and a T56 specific cross member, what would I have to do with the drive shaft?, speedo? I have digital dash.

the drive shaft would be the same, you would need the cross member, t56 clutch, t56(or t5) torque arm mount, t56 wiring( 3 plugs for backup light, speed sensor, and reverse lockout solenoid) you should be able to use the t5 pedals, but some people dont like those. As for the speed sensor, i am not sure if a speed conversion box will work for your gta ( dakota digital sgi 5)

Do you mean the crossmember from a LT1 car or a fabricated one? My understanding is if you use the T5 pedals you will have a heavier pedal feel and engagement would be near the top, sound right? So I should grab all the electrical connectors wthat attach to the tranny, good to know.
Wasn't sure about the speed sensor either, my understanding I should have a electronic speeed sensor already but would need to have a box convert the signal from 17 pulses to 2000 or 4000 pulses????

You would need the digital box as you said the pulses are different but double check that to make sure

T56 crossmember

Also remember the 94-97 T56 has diferent gearing then the 700R4 or T5, you will want to use 3:70's at the min, unless u find a 93 T56 then u would be okay with 3:45's

My motor was fine with 3:42's with the T5, soon as I changed it to the T56 I bogged like a mofo so I ended up changing the rear gears to 3:73's, I now have 4:10's

Rear gear is what me thinking about the T56 swap, since I want to buy rear gear and would like to eventually do a T56 swap maybe I am better off getting 3.70 gear right off the bat.
What involved with the wiring for the T56, and the dakota digital box?
Looks like ordering a cross member (for the cost) is the best way to go.
I put a call out for a T56 I willl see what the cost would be, what would be going rate you think for trans, bellhousing, slave, master cylineder, pedals,?

PM if you would like. Is it a LT1 T56? I have a set of 3rd gen pedals.
So I would need bellhousing, slave and bolts?

They are all over the us forums like camaroz28.com and ls1tech.com from anywhere between 800-1200 depending what's included. You can have them typically shipped here for 100-150 bucks on a palat. Try those sights out and go from there. I've driven with 3.73s and 4.10s and I would do 4.10s. The difference in mileage is about the same and you more out of it and 6th is more useful.

It comes with the bellhousing and slave too.

You might need the electronic plug for your speedo conversion, reverse light and a shifter plate/boot if yours was an auto. I have a mint one for a Camaro but I dont think that will fit :D
