Post Operation drop top swap
welcome to operation drop top swap.

project goals are to swap engines/ drive lines, rear end suspension. seats and anything else that might pop up along the way.
second goal is to have it done in less then 1 month

pic of the 2 cars for this little swap

Image

last month i picked up a nice 92 convertible in Miami and drove it back here. the car has 45000 miles and is all original.

so the swap... this out of my 89

back in to the new convertible

the seats were and easy swap. just changing out old faded cloth for the leathers in the 89

i did how ever have to move the center split bracket from one car to the other

Now you got the easy things done.
Here's hoping the engine transplant goes as well.

Congrats on the new ride Scott! Looks super clean and should make the swap less painful dealing on a rust free low mile car. Can't wait to see this project progress with pics along the way!

thanks man. for a 20 year old car i would sy that the rust level is very very low. battery tray seem to be the worst spot.

this car was so original that it still had rad hoses with a date stamp one them from 91!

a guy that works next door to my place is going to buy it and drop the tbi back into it. but after looking at all the wire drawing and how many changes there are for an 89tpi to a 92 tbi it might not be worth the time.

my first plan was to part it out. after i get done stripping what i want and need its realy just a roller.

engine should go well i think. for the most part its just bolt in. both bodies are the same. the wire mods will be the only thing i really have to work at

no way i can quit now. i am doing all the work in a hanger and they will want me out soon.

the car is now on the trailer waiting to go for paint tomorrow. just doing the engine bay. after that i plan to start putting it all back together. hopefully this weekend. leaving only the wires and exhaust to deal with
