81 EGR?
My father is finally rebuilding his 81 Z so for his b-day i want to buy him a new intake
He has an 81 Z-28 350 auto 3.08 gears all decked out in California emissions.
Does his stock engine comes with an EGR intake?
I just dont want to ask him, you know, it might ruin the surprise.
Thanks

Re: 81 EGR?
Yes it will have it, all GM F-bodys here had EGR since I believe 1974, I know our 78 did do your 81 will

Re: 81 EGR?
by the way if you are still going to use a quadrajet carb, you can pick up a zz4 aluminum intake, it does retain the stock egr, i had one on my 327 in my 84 for a while and it worked very well. i know doublez has it on his car now, and i think he likes it as well. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-1 ... dia/images

Re: 81 EGR?
not really sure of the difference, i liked the bowtie that was on the intake, makes it look like a stock piece. i also paid alot less than what summit was asking for one(or for an edelbrock for that matter), i found it on ebay at the time

Re: 81 EGR?
Yes, I have one on my 74 z28 . they are supposed to flow as well as the 70 1/2 LT1 manifold.I wanted to put one on my 80 z28 but they are a little higher than the stock manifold and the air induction air cleaner will not fit under the hood. If you want something to make it look a little nicer, lose a few pounds but maybe not gain any power you could put an aluminum GM manifold off a 1980 Vette ( prolly 78-79 were the same) they are the same as the cast iron z28 manifold except for being made of aluminum

Re: 81 EGR?
Its a California car so I'd assume it would have egr too, my dads 81 z28 had an egr when it was stock too.

Re: 81 EGR?
FYI, by the time the late second gens were out Canadian cars were fitted with egr, air pump and a cat.( California emmission controls is really not related to your car as our regulations were different and California actually were using 305s by then) GM also started tweaking rearend gear ratios and compensating the 4 speed cars with a different 1st gear . GM started installing EGRs in 1973 on all cars. I think 3/4 ton and up trucks did not get them for a while. 73 and 74 Z28 came with egr and air pumps and the 77 got the CAT as well. THE 76 & 77 Camaros had the same emission controls as the newer ones. So basically I am saying theres no connection to California emission systems becuase all of them had it by then and it wasn't as though somehow a California car got shipped here
