Pulling the engine... with tranny or without? (305/T5)
Hey guys, As the poll says, when pulling the engine in a thirdgen, do you think it's easier to take it out with or without the transmission? It's a T5 if that makes a difference. Which method do you think is better and why? Thanks for any input!

Done it both ways. If you can easily get to the trans bellhousing bolts then it's easier to pull the engine on it's own. Pulling them together is made easier if you have an engine leveller for the lift. If also taken them out the bottom. LOL

The T5 is only held onto the bellhousing by 4-bolts. Ive taken them out with and without the tranny attached. It is definitely easier to maneuver around WITHOUT the tranny attached, but if you have lots of space/room then doing it with the tranny attached shouldnt be a problem.

For T5 "without" for sure. With an auto,it depends.Only if Im wrecking the car that Ill do it attached since it will need more prying and moving around hitting everything else around it(crushing wire looms, scratching paint). Torque converter bolts are sometimes harder to take out manually when there's no load on it.
Like what Jay said, 4 bolts off the bellhousing and take the T5 out later from the bottom

Ok, so if I pull just the engine and leave the T5 in there, will it be difficult to line everything up when the engine goes back in? Thanks for the help guys

Thanks for the help guys You wont be able to leave the T5 in there like you can an Auto, well you can but it will take some mcgyver'ing lol. Just slip out the Driveshaft, unbolt the torque arm mount and take off the 4 bolts that hold the T5 to the Bellhousing. Then just slide the tranny straight out and put it aside. T5's are VERY easy to put back in. Since the slave cylinder is bolted to the bellhousing and the clutch setup is under there, if youre having a little bit of alignment issues with getting the input shaft to slide in all the way you can step on the clutch pedal and the tranny will line itself up and slip right in. Ive done this over 5 times now, it makes life so much easier.
