Dead on road, and then no-start - ideas?
Looking for some ideas.
91 Camaro - 305 stocker. Previously ran fine, had out today and just died and towed home. No real notice...kinda died out quietly and woulnt start.
Car turns over but does not start.
I checked it has spark, checked and replaced fuel pump relay just to make sure, has 12v at relay and fuse is ok, and when I jumper the relay connector I can hear it priming. Fuel pump was replaced about 3 years ago - less than 2,000 kms ago - so I doubt its the Fuel pump - but hey you never know.
Ideas guys?
Also how do I check for power at the actual fuel pump?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Where did you check for spark? At a spark plug? Sounds like you have fuel pump action if you can hear it prime. That would only leave injector pulse but it is rare to lose pulse and not spark. Any codes?

I pulled the spark plug wire, put an old plug in it and observed a spark. No codes at all.

Well if you have spark and fuel pressure then you need to check for injector pulse. You could just pull a plug and see if it is wet indicating that fuel is getting into the cyl. Checked fuses? Does the check engine light bulb check at key on?

I had an ignition module die on me in the middle of the 401 on my 88. It just turned but wouldn't start. Took awhile to diagnose, checked everything else first.

A dying ignition module, provided everything else seems to check out fine would account for the "dead" on road deal where it would suddenly die then not start. I wouldn't discount that area, check the connections to it.

Thanks, I am going to check the injector pulse tonight.
Do you think its safe to rule out the Fuel Pump if I can get it to prime when I jumpered the orange and grey wires, and have confirmed 12V at the Fuel Pump relay? Any other Fuel Pump tests I can perform to be 100%.
I will be a happy man if its something other than the Fuel Pump, and can strike that off the list.

fuel pressure has already been mentioned.
How hot is the spark?(yellow or white?)Coil and mddule could be failing to. It might spark once in a while or even it does it spark intermittently or at the wrong time.
Check for ECM/ignition wiring connections and of course your ignition switch.

I may have tracked things down a bit further as I revisited tonight.
All fuses are ok, 12V at FP relay and is operating fine. Fuel pump primes, does so on key start up and when jumpering the wires at the relay. Squirted some Quick start in the intake this evening and got it to run for a few seconds, still no start without quick start. Later pulled a plug after attempting to start to see if the pluc was wet or dry - it was dry.
So I believe a fuel related issue.
Thougths from you guys - I am going to change the Fuel Filter as I dont know when it was last done, and pickup a Fuel Pressure gauge tomorrow to check at the regulator. What other fuel related things can I do to trouble shoot? This is my first TPI car - so Should I also check the resistance at the injectors? Anything else.

My old 90 Iroc did that on us, turned out to be the injectors, my TPI plow truck also did it, turned out to also be the injectors

Did you check to be sure you have pressure at the fuel rail? Also check to be sure the injectors are firing I once had car die on road with bad wire to injector power supply.

Yeah the old multec is a terrible injector and being bank fired if you have one bad one on each bank the pcm drivers may not be able to fire any of them
