Post Founder's/UMI Caster Plates - Worth it?
Was reading a thread on TGO regarding suspension upgrades.

Seems a few people think new Founder's or UMI Caster Plates should be swapped and will offer a ride improvement before adding a STB.

Any thoughts on this?

I'm adding a UMI wonderbar and STB, and more than willing to pick up some Caster Plates if they will improve the ride and handling.

Depends what alignment specs you're aiming for. I've done a few 3rd gens and never had a problem getting them in spec with the stock pieces.

True, however I think the benefits and advantages to the aftermarket camber/caster plates have more to do with the fact that the stock pieces have a really low quality bearing inside them and over the years (these cars are 21 years old at the NEWEST) they just dont work/function as good anymore.

The new design spherical bearings in them alone are worth it. Not to mention they put the bearing higher up which helps give extended shock travel which will again help with the ride quality.

Theirs no disadvantage to buying them other then the initial cost IMHO. A lot more worthwhile then a STB if you ask me.

I'm guessing pretty straight forward, just need to drop the shocks and remove the original caster plate. You'll need an alignment after replacing everything.

As my car is completely apart, the new caster plates will be part of the rebuild.

Founders comes complete with new plates to fit under in the wheel well and new hardware.

I did it on my old 92, was easy and did make a difference, but as Jay mentioned, could of been my old bearings in my stock old casters, when I got my alignment, the tech luv'd them

If I can do it, then everyone here can ;) just beware you have the car jacked up to take the preasure off the caster when you undo everything, and a jack under the tire to bring it all back up into place

:welcome
