Like the title says, who still does it? Any shops or hobbyists still tuning our cars.

I did ported slp runners, plenum and edelbrock intake and I didn't see any performance gains, thinking tune needs some work.
I was so frustrated with the car last year I didn't even bother getting it out of storage, but want to get it out again this year.

Yes your tune will need adjustments for sure, BUT I don't know anyone here in Canada that still does TPI, sorry

I know a decent place across the border if your interested

Question, since the runner combo will be giving you almost 1000 RPM more power in your power band, are you manually shifting the car later, or have you had the shift points adjusted? Because if it is still shifting in the stock spots, you wont be going any faster in the 1/4 because your not using the new extended power band ;) you could actually lose time in the 1/4 because you will have lost some bottom end with the mods :o

Also, is your gearing set to take advantage of the new power band? If you are crossing the line in like 2nd (while taking advantage of the cars higher rev point) then you wont be living up to the cars potential either. You will prolly want at least a 3:45 in the back being auto, if you had put in that T56 you had for sale last year, then you would want a set somewhere in the range of 3:73's to 4:11's

Just sayin

If you havent done it id suggest a cam swap to make the most out of that new intake as well. Headrs and good exh are already there yes?

Car has a cam Comp XR264, headers, and exhaust. Does still have stock gears 3:23 trans shifts about 5600rpm has a small converter about 2200, its a bit of a dog down low.
Just thought maybe the tune needs some adjustment.

5600 actually isn't that bad of a shift point (if your tach is reading good), you definitely need gears, 3:42's at the least, and the tune will be out in the upper scalar tables, you will need to adjust to take advantage of your new RPM, depending if its rich idling now or not will be weather u need to adjust your lower scalars, but with that cam you are most likely fine

Leave the gears, do a stall. Vigilante 2800 ( not to be confused with other 2800 rated stalls ) will put that thing around 13.0 is my guess with a good tune on pump.

But keep in mind the hole shot will be solid, and that thing will scoot hard from a dig with a tire sticky enough to dead hook. If you want even better performance? Contact Coan and discuss your combo, come to terms with their goals, and pay the price. You will definitely enjoy that money but make sure the tune up is spot on as well. Thats a given

14.3 is best I got last time out and that was dead hook using nitto drag radials :arg:
If it ran mid 13 I would be happy!
If it gets running better I will consider another tc.
Plugs,wire,distributor, coil all fairly new.

The tune up is everything. Thats what I keep barking on about, those things are old computer slow sensor low bandwidth crawling processor slugs. Unfortunately thats the big hurdle. Hawk knows which parts work best, hes posted it here before search it out. 3.73 might net a slightly lower et, but I dont feel its worth it for a street car. dont buzz TPI's unless you have too, use the grunt and they are still tons of fun imo. But regardless that thing has a 13.0 in it, you just have to dial it in to get there. Remember, they're never "done" and they start dying the second you fire them up, its just when and how much power you get, the rest is wasted talk. So I shorten this to

smiles per mile

Spend them wisely

Yeah, it's not all about quarter mile. Just want the car to have good grunt and I thought I had put the parts on it for it to be. Just surprised nobody's tuning these cars anymore.

If you want to make that thing sing? I can guide you to aftermarket Holley digital parts that will cost you about 1500 bucks US that will make that thing run like a champ, sensors aside that is. Your going to have to buy those and whatnot too ( I use stock LS parts they do the same thing but its a LOT more challenging to rework yourself and tune especially ) but you can use the LS1 sensors with the Holley for easy replacement. Anyways just a thought instead of heading south for a tune up, you can buy this and do it yourself

Want to stick with the tpi stuff, going to save my LS build for my new project.
Hopefully get it running decent if not, going back to stock.

Stock with manifolds and nothing but a K&N filter 5.7L auto w 3.23 and stickies and a Hypertech chip ran 14.2 alll day long flawlessy. Stockish TPI isn't bad at all imo. Its just too pricey and too challenging to make them really cook so I got away a long time ago, Still have a stocker though :)

pop in some 3:42's/3:45's and get it tuned good and you got yourself a 13 second TPI, Vigilante is a good stall no doubt about it, but pricey, up to you if you want to swap one in, will definitely help the 1/4

Your tune notwithstanding I can tell you this from experience. The same engine combo I started with gained three tenths with a gear change (to 3.73) and slicks. 14.05 to 13.76. Add to that the following year a 10" convertor and that was another couple of tenths.
There's your mid 13 right there. Each change was worth about a tenth in the 60 foot. A tenth in the 60 is a couple tenths at the stripe all else being equal.
Both make a big difference on the street too. Get it into the peak torque that the TPIs are known for.
(I’ll qualify that by saying that this assumes your present tune isn’t terribly wrong in the first place.)
