What are options with the rear end I'm pretty set on 4 10 gears but that's about all I kno LT4 = OLD Loyed Eilliot = WAY TO MUCH MONEY FOR NOTHING Port and polish your own heads and intake, and if you want to rock that cc306. I've had that setup with full bolt ons, put down over 450 to the wheels...Built at home in a garage. You should be more ambitious and try for newer technology and parts. The Lt4 is a very old setup and really nothing special. Hell just some bolt ons and a tune you can put down 300whp and over 330fptq. That's keeping it basically stock. OH btw if you want to clean up your engine bay and drop that ugly alternator of yours let me know, i can make you a bracket, you can join the cool peoples club.

The SBC is even OLDER and there are tons of them making some serious power. He already has the LT4 so the logical thing to do is h/c swap. Over 450 in your dreams............

Re: 4 gen lt4
Im getting very close to pulling the trigger buts its my first car and its hard to have taken so long to get to this point and part it. Just keep spending more and more money on the pig and more ignition problems and its just not fun anymore for me. So its either 24x LS1 PCM conversion, LS Driveline Swap, or new Car Period! Going to run it for this year likely and over the winter save for whatever i finally decide on to do and whats best for me. Lets not get off topic we are here to help not to criticize. Leroy and Dan have been in the LTx game along time and they know there shit. Leroy probubly has thee baddest LT1 that i personally have seen in Ontario. All motor n/a 383 LT4 460rwhp 6spd... 9`with 4.30s death machine

Not my car, its in Vancouver. And you wish you had enough for my hemi Cav. Lt1s are very easy to make power. Full Bolt on Lt1s a carb conversion can put down over 400hp and run low 11s all day long. Keep in mind these are full bolt on cars, full suspension, and are also carbed. I used to have a nice thread somewhere on here, but its gone now.

All motor n/a 383 LT4 460rwhp 6spd... 9`with 4.30s death machine Thanks I haven't really paid much attention lately, but most of the LT1s that were getting beyond the 450rwhp mark were running solid lifters and more aggressive cams. Cars with a cc306 cam were peaking somewhere around 400-420rwhp, so getting an extra 10% from it would be pretty impressive. Back on topic to our OP... 4.10s in the stock rear end with an M6 is an upgrade waiting to happen. Having said that, mine lasted for a couple of years even with drag radials at the track. I had Richmond 4.10s, though they were a bit louder than other gears. And get yourself some LCAs and relocation brackets if you don't already have them.

I had Richmond 4.10s, though they were a bit louder than other gears. And get yourself some LCAs and relocation brackets if you don't already have them. I have a lot of LT1 real world experience...so Im going to use my car as a prime example. 100% stock 95 LT1 longblock. At the time I never had the heads off or anything. I pulled out the stock cam in favour for a Comp Cams XR270 SBC OE Roller Cam. 218/224 @ 0.050, 110LSA. I put 1.6 Comp roller rockers on it. Carb conversion with a Edelbrock Victor Jr intake and the car put down 341rwhp/347rwtq Untuned with 4.10 gears at the CCFBG Dyno day. It was running so rich it made everyones eyes burn at the dyno day . There was a good 20-30rwhp left on the table if I had dialed in the timing and AFR's but I left it like that, rich but safe and conservative. With that setup but with the stock 3.42 gears I ran 13.2 @ 112mph spinning all of 1st, 2nd half of 3rd and chirping 4th. 2.7 60' time IIRC on street tires. That was last October. Fast forward to July of this year, I popped a head gasket. During my head gasket replacement i decided to Port my heads myself (it was more so gasket matching and some minor bowl blending. No re-shaping or anything to crazy was done. You can ask Vetty he came by to check out the re-build as it was going on) and I used the Victor Reinz 0.26" compressed thickness headgaskets which puts a stock LT1 shortblock with unmilled LT1 aluminum head castings close to ~12.0:1 compression. It might not be exactly 12.0:1 but its close. Anyways, I also changed my cam at the same time. I used a custom grind by Lloyd Elliot. 228/236 @ 0.050", 110LSA and .592/.592 lift w/ 1.6" Rockers. Since I put 4.10 gears in the car 1st gear has become completely useless, even from a 2nd gear punch the tires will instantly light up. I haven't dyno'd the car but I just recently installed an AEM Wideband in my car and under WOT my AFR's pegged 10.0 in the lower rpm and the highest they saw was 12.1 in the higher rpm's. So, it was still pretty damn rich. I went to the track and needless to say traction was less then stellar. Best ET was 12.6 and best MPH was 114.2. Keep in mind i couldnt put my right foot all the way down until half way thru 3rd gear as it was like driving on ICE at Cayuga with the street tires. I have now leaned the car out very slightly. I see my AFR's under WOT go from 12.4~13.3 and my butt dyno tells me it's picked up a little bit of top end, and I still havent dialed in my timing. This car is easily around the 400rwhp mark if not more now and the idle sound from that cam is just nastyyyy. Ask Vetty If my 10 bolt holds up to the ET Streets I recently got, im hoping to bust off some high 11's. She's got the trap speed for it thats for sure. So OP, like I mentioned, mine is a STOCK 95 short block. The stock aluminum heads i hand ported myself and its got a nice cam in it. So Im sure if you ported your stock LT4 heads (which are a heck of a lot better then LT1 heads I have to say) and you used the same or similar cam to the one I have, your car would easily make 400-420rwhp, no questions. Here's a video of my first start-up. Don't mind the lifter tick the lifters werent 100% pumped up and I have since re-adjusted my lash (no solid roller here): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbUh6Nk28jsHope Ive helped in some way. Ask if you have any questions.
