Post Auto trans slow to shift. Only once in a while
1996 Z28 with an automatic. Most of the time the car shifts reasonably hard. It has 150,000 kms.

Recently it's been taking more time to shift. Only once in a while though. Feels like the transmission is vibrating every so slightly when it's slipping between gears.

Fluid level is perfect. No leaks. Bright red clean transmission fuild. Doesn't look or smell burnt at all.

Any suggestions on what's wrong? Can get away without having to do a complete transmission rebuild?

I thank everyone kindly in advance for your help.

Ken

Every gear or only certain ones? 2-3 is the weak one in these trans.

I got 200,000 km out of my first 96 Z28. It started to develope a weak shift between 2 - 3. I was able to keep driving the car without issue because I made it a point never to race into 3rd. Most races are over by then anyways.

However, in this case it happens between 1 and 2 also. But only sometimes.

It all started right after one race two days ago. The race was on the 401 from 2nd gear to 3rd. It didn't want to go into 3rd. I flew past a 1972 yellow corvette.

Not a hint of a problem before that.

I would have a trans shop look at it before it turns into a rebuild. There are lots of upgrades that can be done without having to remove the trans from the car.

My transmission shop thinks putting 2 additives into the fluid will help. He said one of his customers just had great success with a Magnum that was shuddering during shifting. I'm also getting a slight shuddering when the transmission slips during shifting.

I've never been a fan of additives. They usually do more damage than good. I hope this helps.
