as Scott Settlemire explained at the Nats......they want to build a good/durable car with a 5 Star insurance rating.do you actually think GM will make a POS after all these years. 412 hp  I bet the second year gets more HP
if you want a 3000 lb car theres always the Cobalt :P

I agree Kevin, I love this car, I cant wait till it comes out.

I have never owned a new Camaro, had a bunch of used ones but at some point will be getting a New RS !

I have heard Scott Settlemire speak 4 or 5 times on this car. He proudly says he fell in love with Camaros the fall of 1966 when the first one was delivered to his family's dealership in Pittsburg. Hell he even wrote that little book that they gave us at the CIAS.He is extremely excited about this car.
Sure I wish the car weighed 3200 lbs but it doesn't :!: it is fairly close to the traditional wieght of F bodies. 5L Fox body Mustangs were light but most of them were twisted like pretzels and are now in toasters made in China
at 3700 lbs and 412 hp it will blow the doors off all unmodded F bodies on CCFBG and prolly 80-90% of the modded ones.......so whats wrong with that 8) :?:

More fake renders. Show me the production version sitting in a driveway or lot.

IMO, the interior still sucks pretty bad.

It would cost 40 times an unmodded one would cost.. and maybe 5 times a modded would.. :D

Its sure is growing on me though. Its on the busy side but a black car would probably smooth that out

Looks nice but what is with all of these heavy pig cars there making now??? I mean my Iroc weights 3250 and its all steel, and tons of glass. PLus it is a cast Iron LT1...all the new stuff is aluminum.

the challenger is built off the charger platform and dodge claims they cant get the car any lighter then that because of the crap they have to put in the doors to meet side impact ratings.

My other guess is this is because they barely put any steel in cars anymore because its too expensive, so they have to put all sorts of other crap in them to meet safety ratings.

i remember a story on tgo about a user who's third gen got t-boned on the drivers side door by a loaded dump truck doing around 35 mph. spent one night in the hospital and was out with some bumps and bruises the next day

Thats crazy. Imagine how fast they would all be if they weight 3000-3300lbs :D

the new z06 weighs i believe 3150 with carbon fibre fenders and aluminum everything, and yes its stupid fast. The 427 might help with that tho

To me it's ugly as hell from behind:

That big plastic valance panel between the tailpipes looks cheesey and cheap and I'm sure will start to fall apart quickly in real world use. It looks like an afterthought, I would have thought GM could have done better than this....

lol was reading i think it was a car and drive mag today. It had seperate articles on the new camaro, and on the new challenger (in no way comparing the two).

The camaro got all the usual praise you would expect based on what it is, although i still cant believe they went and put an irs in the thing.

The challenger on the other hand, basically they said (this being the top srt version) that everything was made so the not so serious car enthusiast would want to buy it. The suspension is soft and the car is sluggish and doesnt respond well coming out of the corners. The way its built its a very narrow and tall car which you notice right away, as compared to the 70's version which was low and wide. And even the interior (while being slightly less hideous imo) is completly boring and not up to what youd expect from a challenger car.

the car is not aimed at all at the performance enthusiast but the general market place.

couldna said it better myself Ray, GM screwed up huge by ending the Camaro ! yes it is highly anticipated but its under a microscope more than other Gen cars where the production of the new one follows the previous Gen
 There is supposed to be 4 5th Gens at the Indy Bash .
Isn't anyone else tired of this cat and mouse game?

Glad to hear the Challenger is a typical GOAT  lmao . Just like a 74 Roadrunner.........pos

Guys, don't forget that it is the V6 car that weighs 3741lbs. The V8 (SS) car is actually 3860lbs for the manual and 3913lbs for the automatic. I still love the look, but man thats heavy! I guess I'll have to test drive one first

I don't think this is the worst thing that could happen to the 5th Gen. theres been lots of cars as heavy. There has to be a good reason for this weight don't kid yourself. GM would love a quality car @ 3200LBS.
A rule of thumb is for every 100 lbs you lose 1/10 sec in the 1/4 mile......so you overcome this with horespower :D
checkout this link. theres sliderules that calculate 1/4 accelaration as well. of coarse it is not 100% accurate but it gives you an idea

http://www.web-cars.com/math/qtr_mile.html

The quarter mile acceleration time of a car that weighs 3860 pounds and has 412 horsepower is 12.280 seconds.

The speed is 111.011176165795 mph
