Thoughts on this 2010 for 25K.

Also the 3300 for junking your old vehicle would about cover the tax assuming that's not a scam.

Depends on your plans for the truck.

What is your intended usage? Any mods planned?

No mods.

Just general usage, probably a daily driver and maybe tow a car and trailer to the track a few times a year, might get one of those tent things that sets up in the box and sleep in the back etc.

If you plan to tow a car on a trailer you'll likely want a 5.3 rather than the 4.8 motor. Check the towing capacity on the truck vs the weight of the car & trailer which will likely run 5-5500 lbs.

Yeah, that's what most people who have them are saying.

More important than the 5.3 is DEFINITELY must have the 4L80E six speed auto. You can thank me later

I have a 2009 with the 4.8. Mainly use it as a work truck. It has 4x4 and upgraded tow package. It has 74,000 kms on it. I pull a 12 ft trailer with it and have pulled basically anything you can put on it. Highly recommend the truck so far haven't had any problems with it since i bought it new. i've been getting about 800km to a tank. If your not pulling something everyday then the 4.8 is fine. Just my two cents.

The 4.8 and 5.3 power difference is not huge at all but the 6 spd auto is only available with the 5.3 or 6.2 and it is WELL worth the dough. Its a major upgrade over the 4spd auto

What does anything mean? What is the tow capacity of the truck? What does the sticker say on the hitch?

The 5.3 has the VVT as far as I know. Best all round setup would be the 5.3 with the 6 spd and 3.73's. Of course every time you add something the price of the truck goes up.

Yeah, I don't want to pay more than 25.

Seems there's problems with the AFM/DOD crap - be better w/out it.

All the V8's have VVT now and VVT is GOOD you want it. 3.73 with a 6 spd would be insane. 3.42 and a 6spd works out to the same first gear ratio as a 700R4 or 4L60E with 4.10's so how low of a first gear do you want? As I said above trust me everyone wants the new 6 spd auto. Its ratios are way better and its ten times tougher. Especially for towing.

Dont confuse VVT with AFM they are two completely different systems. VVT is variable valve timing and it only adds power and efficiency its good and its why its on all new V8's

AFM is part of the "fuel economy" package and you have to pay $1500 more to get it. It uses collapsible lifters that are the problem. Apparently they are actually durable in stock trim the big issue is the smaller base circles with aftermarket cams causing them to dig in and bloe the engine. Most of the failures are due to cam swaps not because these AFM engines are junky. Regardless the fuel mileage difference is negligible in comparison and its not worth the 1500 bucks. Its more marketing pooh

I have the old 4.8 in my company truck 2003 silverado regular cab longbox. it has balls off the line but man it sucks in the top end. it also has 3.42 gears. I would go with the 5.3. but the 6.0l is soo much more fun to drive in a 2wd regular cab. buy that one.

You want the 6.2L its cheaper on fuel than the 6.0L and it has a hundred more ponies heheheh

A friend of mine has a 2010 Sierra Denali 6.2L 2x4 with longtubes, intake, and a 228 cam he runs 12.1 at 114mph!

Plus he still gets better mileage than my 4.8L 4spd auto

The 6.2 VVT is a SICK engine

Mind you if you want peak fuel mileage the 5.3 with the 6spd auto is the best. Substantially better than the 4.8L 4spd and thats even WITHOUT the AFM
