Post ELECTRIC WATER PUMP CONCERN
Just wondering if anyone has had a Meziere electric water pump...when these things decide to die, do they generally just quit or do they start cutting out intermittently, It's wired through a relay, can relays die in the same manner?...Almost had a disaster yesterday when the temp guage almost redlined, pump wasn't working, got it safely shut down and cooled at a friends place...I had to leave it and go to work but when I returned all was working fine and drove home with no issues.

I checked all my connections and I'm gonna replace the relay...just feeling a bit paranoid now if the pump is going to do this again :?
Any info is appreciated...signed, I don't wanna spend any more money :D

i would suspect relay, i don't even run a relay on mine, it draws so little power, one less thing to go wrong.

I thought about wiring it that way, but went with the manufacturers directions...your right though, one less thing to worry about.

Did you get the issue fixed Keith? A good idea to try and can be done rather cheaply is to do the buzzer mod. There are plently of write ups on the net to wire one up yourself. This will alert you before you overheat and do damage when the pump goes bad. I havent really heard of many pumps going bad.

I thought about doing something like that except with a red warning light...got all winter to do it now...I picked up a new relay but haven't had time to go over it...better get into it soon or the snow will be fying before I know it.

I used a relay from Racetronix for mine, the same one they use for the fuel pump hotwire kits. I think it's a Seimens part with a weatherpack connector.
Also did the buzzer just in case, off a sending unit in the head..

I may ask you for more info on your buzzer set up when I do mine...THX. The car gets put away the end of this month so it's gonna get added to that winter list of "things to do"

the buzzer idea is kinda silly. Older cars without gauges usually have a dummy light that turns on at a certain temp. You can just wire up normally closed switch from the pump to a light and it will glow if the pump is dead. Any good driver should be content with a gauge though

I agree but for what it costs to make one up its definetly worth it just incase your not watching your gauges but the buzzer/light will come on to save your engine.

The factory check gauges light will come on at 244deg F which is a little late

My experience with motors is that they will generally seize up when they stop working or trip breaker or blow the fuse.

The relay is where I would look.

Also check all grounds so many funny electric problems turn out to be a poor ground.

I know the lights are called idiot lights because they are for the idiots that don't pay attention to a gauge but I have had similar thing happen when a water pump impeller disintegrated on the hi way. Once the coolant stops flowing the engine temp shoots up and something to get your attention is a good plan.

I saw no temp light come on my dash when it heated up, not sure if it even has one and don't want to test it's ability to come on...A combination of a warning light, a buzzer and maybe smack on the back of the head should be enough to keep an eye on things :D ...Gonna recheck the wiring one more time and pop in the new relay today, I just hate these intermittant problems...Thanks again 8)
