temp guage acting up.
my 97 t/a s temp guage i think has been possesed. at times im driving and it just drops and stops working. then at the next set of lights it starts working again. on the highway its on and off. i had the rad flushed recently and the sysyem bled for air in it and also changed the switch that bolts into the block on the drivers side. any ideas ???

Check the sensor with a volt meter set to Ohms scale.
Cold it should read 1350 ohms or so.
Hot it should read 50 ohms or so.

i would say wire or bad contact! hum.. why not use the specialized tool to solve the problem

Check the coolant temperature sensor. The one in my Sonoma went bad and gave some funky readings. I replaced it and everything was fine for a year or so.
Then the gauge started acting kinda like your describing. It would be fine, then suddenly drop....I found that if I tapped on the plastic cover it would come back for awhile, then repeat. That went on for a few months....Then one day I was in a bad mood and noticed the guage doing it's shit...So I may have hit the plastic cover a little hard - punched right through it and hit the gauge needle. Since then it has been fine!! Obviously I did have to take the dash apart to replace the broken plastic cover....But it was well worth it. lol

i dont really feel like punching the dash in the car. lol.but when i get some time and feeling better im going to look more into it.
