disappointing track weekend
with all the mods i have done over last year i still managed dropped a second off my 1/4 time. 14:08 @ 97mph my 60' at 2.01 launching at 1500rpm. this is with my cc503, and ported heads and 3200 stall. beat my old time off the stock setup of 14.9. i just would have figured i would be getting a better time with it. street tires are hurting my times i know but is there anything else i should be looking at say tuning were its not performing where it should be, car feels strong all the way down the track just not hitting say mid 13's where at least i think i should be for times with that setup on street tires.
should i not over look it and keep practicing? or is there something i should be doing more of

Re: disappointing track weekend
Lots of questions.
First let me ask how much your Impy weighs?
Then how much gas is in the tank when you run?
Do you have a tune? Mail order or Dyno?
Rear gears stock 3.08?
Do you run it full out right past the traps? thats how you get your mph.

Re: disappointing track weekend
BTW the 60' is good for street tires and a heavy car, but with a cam and stall it should be at least a 1.8.

Re: disappointing track weekend
what it weighs is about 4500lbs with a stereo in the trunk about 300lbs or so. (i know thats hurting me.) tank was about 3/4 full (i shouldnt have filled up when i left.) mail order tune rear gears 3:73 and yes i knew about the trap times i ran right through, in the afternoon my times where slower but my mph was greater?
the 60' times i should be getting on streets is about 1.8 most of the stock impl guys in the states are hitting those times and landing good 13.5+ times. the weight is probably killing me and not having DR doesnt either

Re: disappointing track weekend
The weight, the stereo, 3/4 tank of fuel, big heavy 20" rims, street tires, and mailorder tune are all hurting you. Id focus on getting some good dr's put on your stock rims for track use only to ditch the big heavy rims and stiff tires. Mailorder tunes can be WAY off and you would be suprised how much of a difference one can make. Talk to Flame and make an appointment to get him to look over the tune and depending when the KW dyno day is you may be able to get it final tweaked on the dyno to get the most out of the car. Its very touch depending on the stereo system to pull it but if you can get it out or maybe redo it to make it more functional to be able to pull out of the car while still keeping the tuneage might be an idea.

Re: disappointing track weekend
Looks like a little weight reduction is required.
Leave for the track with 1/2 a tank and have a 20L gas can full of 94 to get you home.
Can you remove the sub box for racing?
Are you running a spare?
Empty the washerfluid tank(7lbs)
Get the floormats out and everything else thats not nailed down.
Remove the front swaybar.
Air your front tires to 40/45psi when you get to Cayuga.
Get some sticky tires and try raising your launch rpm.

Re: disappointing track weekend
i guess i need a plan of what i need to change before going back i was just hoping i could hit those times just by showing up and running what i have, my sons stroller doesnt fit with the stereo in there anyway looks like i will be selling it off now lol! when i did run i removed anything i could to get the weight down but it still only pulled a 14.1 in the afternoon. i know i need to talk and set up with flame to get a tune, i wanted to see if i could get that 52mm back in (the guy who did my mail order tune didnt tune it in) i know i must be having some tuning problems, but not sure how close it is. im also going to look up DR for my old 17's and get these off next time i go. thanks guys BTW cool pic from a friend of mine launching off the line enjoy

Re: disappointing track weekend
Whats the RPM when you cross the line. LT1s and that cam likes the RPM so might have a 1-1500 RPM more of power that yourre not using because of the 3.08

Re: disappointing track weekend
oh ok, but what RPMs do you cross? My Fleetwood trapped much higher and worse on the 60' but I always cross at 6000RPM. My best time with the Fleetwood was 13.9 @102(drag radials)

Re: disappointing track weekend
It had to be around the 5700 to 6000 mark never really paid attention to how high it was at the traps. the shifts were 6200rpm.

Re: disappointing track weekend
never data logged it but i have the knock module out of a LT5 vette because of the noise coming from the valvetrain, common impala upgrade

Re: disappointing track weekend
You mean LT4? My car likes the stock module more, for less knock retard. I'd check it out..you could be pulling 5+ deg easy.
