Post Re: T56 Throw out bearing
Hmm, when I had the slave off, the fork had alot of movement to it, up and down and back and forth. Enough that I could rattle it around. Once I put the slave back in without the dust cover, and pressed on the clutch, there was no play. I did however pull a piece of clutch material out that was about an inch long and 1/4 wide. I thought at first it was a piece of wire until I reached in with pliers and pulled it out.

To add to what Cam said, the fork fits onto a 'T' shaped part that is the pivot. There is a little clip that holds the fork in place when the slave is not putting load on it. Chech that the T part retaining bolt is tight when inspecting.

Also look into the 'drill mod' if you end up taking it all apart. GM restricted the hydraulic flow in the line between the slave and master..you can drill it out easily but have to get the line off there. If I wasn't on my BB I'd post a link. Look on camaroz28.com

Ok,
I have the tranny unbolted, everything is disconnected and i still can 't pull the tranny out. I can see the flywheel, it has come back that far. Still, I can 't get it to pull back any farther. I can almost turn the tranny completely around by hand. I thought maybe it was hitting on the floorpan, so i unbolted the bellhousing. Still it won 't come out. What am I missing. I am getting pretty frustrated by this, so if anyone has any insight into this, or hell, come on out and lend m e a hand, I would greatly appreciate it.

Sounds like you didnt disconnect the clutch fork.

Make sure the tranny is in all the way as if it was installed...then grab the clutch fork and yank it down to disconnect. Now you can pull the tranny out.

The fork needs to slide away from the input shaft to disconnect from the throwout bearing.

No kidding, I mean I don't know clutches, but one look told me that this one was done. Now to find a decent clutch that isn't going to break the bank...

Just getting a stock replacement. The guy at Performance Improvements suggested that is the best way to go as I don 't drag race the car and all my mods are bolt -ons. So I am gettingthe complete kit.

that should be fine for now, are you going to be getting the flywheel turned, that one looks like it has been beat up pretty bad. Also when reinstalling the pressure plate, make sure you use the correct bolts and torque them to gm specs. if you over torque them the clutch wont fully disengage and you have a hard time shifting gears due to the clutch grabbing.(dont ask me how i know)

Oh ya, for sure...don't bother re-installing without refacing the flywheel!

Post Re: T56 Throw out bearing
Yeah for sure. We have a machine shop pretty close by, Heimpel Automotive. They are an engine builder and are pretty reasonable. I am going to talk to them Tuesday AM. Just ticks me off when all this work could have been avoided if the guy was upfront about everything. Oh, well, it will be fixed and I will have the peace of mind that everything is working as it should. It does make me question my etest though. It failed on the NOX, not by much, but a fail is a fail. I looked at the print out and it was revving at 2,027 RPM for a 40 KPH test. Previous tests shows very good numbers at 1972 RPM so could it have been that the clutch was causing the excessive RPMs during the test? I know the tester had problems with getting it into gear, he was trying to start it in 2nd, then he did it in 1st and shifted to 2nd during the test.

Well it was new at one time..........is there even a pilot bushing left in the crank? Make sure when you install it that you line up the paint mark on the pressure plate to the white X on the flywheel or you chance making a vibration
