Shocks and .."Struts"
Hey guys, I was looking for shocks for my car and some say my 95 z28 has struts on the front. From the research I have done they don't have struts at all. I was also told there are no adjustable shocks for my car but again with more research found that there are 2 kinds of adjustable shocks(height or damping) and I am not sure what is better. I can also just get Monroe gas shocks for under $400 which is roughly half the price of my other options. What would you guys recommend?

Re: Shocks and .."Struts"
Steer clear of the Monroe's imo. Too soft. KYB's are similarly priced and 3x the shock. No front struts on 4th gens btw. You have a SLA ( single long arm ) front suspension, third gens use McPherson struts. Rear suspension is the same between 3rd and 4th gens though.
If you really enjoy the car and want shocks that perform well, and LAST a long ass time? Step right to Bilstein HD's, these are my favorite all time shock for any vehicle they always perform very well, without making things too harsh for DD use. If you want the full Monty? Get Koni Yellows

We did this on steves old forth gen when he had it. Sam Strano springs and koni yellows. Was a sweet setup for sure. I wish I could find the pics but I think I deleted them

Re: Shocks and .."Struts"
Thanks everyone for the tips. With what I have found out over the net and you two I know I want either blisteines or kyb. I really want the adjustable damping kybs but they are around 800 bucks and right now that's too much. I am leaning towards blisteines because that's what SLP was using for the SS.

If you want a good shock thats adjustable? Viking shocks. Damn good stuff, former owner of QA1 at it again.

Re: Shocks and .."Struts"
At this point adjustable shocks might be overkill, I need a good shock that will perform better then stock. No more then 600 tax in. I am going to price out a few options tomorrow.

Re: Shocks and .."Struts"
Ive got one season ( about 5k kms most of it hwy down to LSfest ) on brand new KYB's I installed last summer. I'd sell them at a decent discount if you want, been thinking about Bilsteins here again lately haha.

Re: Shocks and .."Struts"
Haha ok I will keep looking. Is there anything wrong with using adjustable damping shocks or blisteins on the front and maybe a Monroe or kyb none adjustable or something else on the back??

Re: Shocks and .."Struts"
I wouldnt mix and match shocks up. Use the same stuff on all four corners it'll be a much better driving experience if you do. Remember a suspensions job is not to absorb bumps, its to keep the tire planted on the ground, with as even pressure as possible, at all times. So having some adjustment sounds fun and talks good at the burger joint when your spilling the details on your build, and thats about it. Performance wise having adjustable shocks wont do much if anything at all on the street.
Now at the drag strip? Double adjustable rear shocks and V6 rear springs flat out WINNNNNNS! Bilstein, KYB, Koni Yellows will all hurt drag strip performance as they are road shocks meant to turn and whatnot.
Most goof proof solution is Bilstein HD's all round. You will know where that extra money went if you step to those

Re: Shocks and .."Struts"
Oh ok that clarifies a lot for me thanks! one last question on shocks.. I priced out the blisteins hds and they are 161 each in the front and 225 each on the back that's $772 plus taxes..is that a decent deal?

Re: Shocks and .."Struts"
They have come down a lot since the dollar went up. Rockauto maybe has them I dont know. Try Amazon sometimes that site can surprise with what they sell. IIRC last year my price for all four was around that number. 650 or so iirc
