Post Rad fan thermostat?
Can anyone please recommend a way to lower the temperature at which the radiator cooling fans activate?

I know SLP sells a three-way over-ride control switch for manual low/high + middle position for standard factory setting.

http://www.slponline.com/product/63011- ... rettyPhoto

I hate having to turn the AC on just to keep the engine at 180 in heavy traffic. I'm also not fond of the bad gas mileage. But also don't want a manual switch to drain the battery when I forget to turn it off. My car will never need to cool off in any staging lanes. It will never see the track.

I would prefer an automated lower fan thermostat setting for when the AC is off. OR... The fans to keep the car running at 180 with, or without the AC on.

All suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Thank you kindly,
Ken

That's something you can just set in the computer.

I'm saying "just set", but obviously you need the setup to do that, like a Hypertech programmer. If you have that, then you can just program in new temperature values for fan off/on.

Thank Hex. That almost sounds too logical.

Looks like I need to do some homework on programmers now.

You can always wire up a switch to ground out the fan relay manually.

Thank you kindly 6speed. Problem is if you forget to turn off the fan. Your battery goes dead.

Where's a place to buy a tuner please? I only want to adjust the fan thermostat. I'm not looking for more HP.

Preferebly less expensive.

Thank you kindly in advance,
Ken

Hi Ken!
http://shbox.com/page/index.html site has a wealth of info. I purchased a complete fan override switch kit several years ago that included two dash mounted LED's but I can't remember the manufacturer. A quick search provides an SLP kit currently available on the afterthoughts site but that's not the one I have. It might have been a Delane. Hope this helps!

Thanks a million for the great advice!

Pardon the dumb question... What's the term "unlocked" mean with respect to a tuner please?

Cheers,
Ken

Once the tuner is used on a car it is vin locked to that car. It has to be returned to stock to remove the lock before using on another car.
