Post Gee's Bird
Hey everyone I am new here. Through other sites I found my way here. My love for my 3rd gen is because of my wife. She found it for me and it was my birthday present. When my bird hit the road I was 19 and everyday I get out in her I am 19 again. I am going to do a steady build as auto_god has. As of now she is an 89 5.slow L Formula and I believe in staying true to my car. This old girl has never seen winter and never will. Paint etc will wait for a year now. My plan is as follows but I am open to input
Holley 502-5 throttle body (yes its for a pick up but so what)
Hooker 2055HKR hedders back to a new cat (I am a single cat car)
I have a Dynamax 2 1/2" muffler here already
Tune up was done when I got her on the road.
Gona get some tests done with auto_god
if posting a pic was easy it would be here

I sensed your frustration with posting pics so I stole your picture from Thirdgen.org and put it up here for you! Lol!

Thanks auto_God. This morning I went to Vaughan and picked up a stock cd player. Got home and figured I would see what kind of a mess was involved with the deck that was in the car. Thank god the previous owner had it professionally done and my factory wire harness was there. I removed an adapter and plugged my new stereo in , best part is the stereo works . Won't make the car go faster but I can drown out the sound of any mustang around me :D . Thursday I am heading to Foxboro to pick up a new fibreglass aerowing before this one flies off the back of the car . Hopefully I will have it on for next weekend. I want to order the headers from Performance Improvements but I keep looking for some where cheaper.
Wish I could figure out the pic issue.
Thanks mikesz

Met up with Gerard this morning......good to be able to put a face to the name now!

After shooting the breeze for a while we headed out to beat up on his car for a bit and see where it stands as a baseline before the mods start!

Apparently what appears to be a high flow cat, aftermarket exhaust & recent tune up have already improved matters as the car performed better than expected. Its nice when that happens!

Now let the modding begin!!

OK no pics today. I modified the air intake for the temp sensor and revented the valve cover through the cutest little k&n filter ever. Filter sizing was an issue until I called Performance Improvements. Picking up a K&N less cute at the price but necessary. Spent more time cleaning under the hood. Hoping by noon to take her for a run tomorrow

Hopefully it performs as well as it looks! Glad someone could get some use out of it instead of it collecting dust in my shed!

I found when I was going through the same process of trying to clean under the hood of my car, this stuff worked fantastic.

Love the stuff.......I keep a 4L jug in the garage at all times!

Well today's testing of the new intake on the car was a bit of a humbling experience!!

A loss of 18 whp is pretty tough to swallow!

ImageNew Intake vs stock by Shane Hewitt, on Flickr

While this would seem like a disappointing result initially, I'm actually pretty encouraged by the potential that seems to likely be in there. Looking at the graph we can see a very significant difference below 3200 rpm.....30 ft/lbs at 3000 rpm actually. That is an indication that the engine is moving a LOT more air, enough that I believe that the car has gone extremely lean (thus the power loss above 3200). Very interested to put my wideband in the car to confirm this. I'm pretty convinced once the car gets the fuel I suspect it needs there is some power to be had.

But, all goes to show that the butt dyno can't be trusted as Gerard & I both felt the car had a lot more balls than it did previously(likely the extra 30 ft/lbs of torque we were feeling). The data doesn't lie though. Interested to get to the bottom of this and see what she's got.

It was a bit of a tough pill to swallow but shows what happens. If it's the feul issue we think then no big deal. Glad we did 2 runs to double check. From a light she can move but I guess not to far. Thanks for your help Shane.

Do to my bad shoulder I haven't done much. I did remove the ac, compressor and condenser also the air pump. I have Flowtech headers, Magnaflow cat and full Dynamax 2 1 / 2 " exhaust to go on. Got a JET feul reg upgrade kit and Screamin Demon ignition also. Auto God is working on a possible L98 cam upgrade. Found a mechanic down the road from me who knows the 3rd Gen well and he is a hotrodder. Just trying to get everything together. Then I will have the bird towed from the nest for upgrades.
Gee :cheers :cheers
